Early in November I delivered the Carl A. Taube Award lecture to the mental health section of the American Public Health Association. In this lecture I expressed my worry that integrated care for persons with serious mental illness, like deinstitutionalization (of which I am still in favor) would substitute “wishful thinking” for adequate systems planning. I also suggested that, given the lack of studies, simulations like PBN Free (http://model.planningbythenumbers.org/) might help with more adequate resource allocation planning.
Currently, PBN Free does not include a module for evaluating integrated care options, but I hope to add one.
